Connect with nature
Once a sandstone quarry, Helsdale Wood is privately owned – but easy and unrestricted access is available to most of it – and there’s even an unofficial pathway which connects to it from Spud Wood.
Though so much smaller than Spud Wood, there’s more to see and discover here compared to it’s neighbour – and it has a much more magical and mysterious feel to it!
It’s a more challenging walk for sure – and it’s also popular place for young mountain bikers, with a few mud mounds to navigate.
There’s also a couple of makeshift swings too!
It’s a site of biological importance due to it’s population of liverworts and mosses – there’s a couple of deep pools, a stream and even a small waterfall for you to discover!
