Crosfield Bridge

The bridge to nowhere

At the southern end of Lymm Dam you’ll find Crosfield Bridge, a rather ornate construction which has sadly fallen into disrepair in recent times – however still worth seeking out as a reminder of our rich heritage and a different place in time.

Built for Lord Leverhume just after the first World War, Crosfield Bridge spans Bradley Brook and a scenic wooded valley – once part of the Beechwood Estate.

It was built to provide access to a new chemical plant and residential area – perhaps a model village similar to Port Sunlight, providing work and housing for industrial workers.

Unfortunately, the project never progressed and though the bridge remains, it has fallen into a considerable state of disrepair in recent times.

A grand design

The bridge has a unique design with a graceful archway that creates a visually stunning effect. The bridge is constructed of red brick and concrete and is decorated with intricate details such as decorative panels and carvings.

Well worth seeking out

Overall, Crosfield Bridge at Lymm Dam is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for an enjoyable walk in the heart of nature.

Whether you are a history buff, a fan of architecture, or simply looking to enjoy some fresh air, Crosfield Bridge is definitely worth a visit.
